Moodle Changes

Development Advisory Committee (MDAC), that are designed to improve the LSU Moodle experience.

1) The first major change is that there are now two Moodles: old Moodle and the new Moodle. ITS has moved to a new Moodle environment to provide smoother service for you especially during “high traffic” times throughout the year. You will be able to click a link at the top to switch between the old environment and the new one beginning with the Spring 2010 courses. The old Moodle will disappear once the Spring semester is underway. Previous courses (including materials courses) have been backed up and are ready for you to move to the new Moodle. Previous courses can be migrated to the new site by individual faculty or by ITS staff. Please contact the Faculty Technology Center to schedule assistance at ftc@lsu.edu or phone 578-3375 and press 1.

2) Responding to the requests and input ITS received from the Faculty Senate and from faculty individually, we are adjusting some Moodle terminology to help make it easier to understand various functions and attributes. (For instance, “materials courses” are now called “master courses.”) A modest set of new terms has been introduced as ITS improves the ease-of-use of Moodle while at the same time attempting to minimize the introduction of new terms for those comfortable with the current terminology. ITS and the MDAC continue to investigate faculty suggestions for improvement to MDAC. The MDAC Web site provides information about current developments and allows faculty and students the opportunity to request changes to Moodle.
