Departmental & Professional Organizations

Information Technology Services hosts departmental, faculty, class, student, and professional organizational Web sites that are supported, backed up nightly, and mirrored to a back-up Web server. ITS allocates 50MB of space to Web clients.

A request for initial hosting service can be submitted to our Accounts Coordinator via the Web Account Request form. Additional hosting space can be requested by sending e-mail to the Webmaster. These requests will be evaluated, approved, or denied on an individual basis. E-mail accounts for those Web sites, if desired, will be allocated as lsu.edu accounts. WWW.LSU.EDU itself will not provide e-mail services. FTP client access should provide the necessary functions to maintain Web files.

The URL to access these pages will be www.lsu.edu/organization_name, where the "organization_name" is a unique string that will be determined by ITS. If you would like to suggest a string to be used for your organization name, please use the comments section of the Web request form to specify your suggestions. If you request an e-mail account, you may also suggest a string for the e-mail in the comments section. Information Technology Services cannot promise to accommodate all requested URLs, but will work with the user to come up with an acceptable URL.

There will be a unique group ID defined for each site and a site logon ID created for that group. This logon id will be associated with an individual. For departments, it will be the LSU faculty or staff person requesting the site. Ultimate control of sites, however, will reside with the department chair for departmental sites and the organization's faculty sponsor for professional organizations. As it is common for department heads and faculty sponsors to change, Information Technology Services will periodically contact the individuals associated with the site log on IDs to confirm the status and make updates as responses indicate.

Although ITS does not currently plan to charge for Web site resources, a budget code must be provided for setting up the new Web site user IDs.
